Residents deal with aftermath of storm damage in East Providence

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Residents across Rhode Island still dealing with the aftermath of Wednesday’s storm, from fallen trees and flooded roads to power outages, the damage has been widespread.

Heavy rains and powerful winds swept through Rhode Island on Wednesday, leaving many residents to deal with damage and cleanup.

The storm brought gusts of up to 60 miles per hour and caused localized flooding in several areas.

One East Providence resident, David Cabral, said he was lecturing at Providence College when he got an alert from his security company that something was wrong at his home.

“I came home and this is what was happening at the house. The tree had fallen down,” he said.

“The whole root system came out as well as the tree came down. There’s not much big damage aside from the tree is gone and it took some shutters and broke some things,” he continued.

Cabral, who has lived in the area for 21 years, said he has never experienced anything like this.

“I’ve seen branches fall down but not a whole tree, I’m shocked and I canceled classes today so I get to stay home today,” he said.

Cabral said the tree damaged his shutters, gutter, and front stairs, and even took out his bird bath.

He is now waiting to clear the tree and assess the repairs.
