Residents of North Providence apartments left shaken after woman struck, killed by snow plow
NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Residents of the Maple Gardens apartment complex in North Providence shared their reactions to the death of neighbor Maria Vega-Rivera, who was killed in a snow plow crash Tuesday afternoon.
“You never what’s going to happen,” said Donna Nastari, resident at Maple Gardens Apartment. “She was outside walking…should she not have been out? Maybe she had to do something. I heard that she fell and got hurt and she died. It’s terrible.”
Vega-Rivera, 71, a resident of Maple Gardens, was hit and killed by a snow plow in the parking lot of the apartments Tuesday around 1 p.m.
Officials told ABC 6 News that Vega-Rivera suffered serious injuries and was taken to Rhode Island Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead by medical staff.
According to police, the driver of the plow, Lloyd Card, 30,was operating an unregistered vehicle and driving with a suspended license.
“This is a real tragedy, obviously we are all upset about it,” said resident Joe Nelson.
“I am not sure why someone was driving without a license and without a registered vehicle, but, beyond that, there were a lot of things going on with the ice. Things were really dangerous for everybody yesterday,” he said.
