Residents shocked by hundreds of nails found on Falmouth roads
FALMOUTH, Mass. (WLNE) — It was a sharp surprise for a small neighborhood in Falmouth Friday morning.
Police had to remove several rows of nails sticking from the pavement on a stretch of John Parker Road.
Resident Don Willson said he had never seen anything like it.
“The country is crazy right now, but not that crazy to be popping people’s tires,” he said. “Somebody could’ve got killed.”
Police said an officer was patrolling the road early Friday morning when he came across the setup.
Rick Murphy lives a couple of houses down from where the nails were found.
“It looked like they put the nails between the inside line and the outside lines, a whole row of them, then they skipped a bit and went to the other side for about four feet,” he said. “They did that several places.”
A neighbor said he found about a dozen of the nails on the sidewalk in front of his house.
Police said 478 nails were collected in total, a number of them sticking out of strips of tar in the middle of the street.
“It was in the crack in front of that white fence, they just lined them right up, must’ve taken an hour to do all that,” Willson said.
Nails were also found on Clark Street, Old Barnstable Road, and Prince Henry Drive.
Police said some of them were also propped up underneath the tires of parked cars.
“I’m glad that I wasn’t out driving before the cop got there, because I’d have had flat tires,” Murphy said.
He also offered some strong works for the mastermind behind the act.
“You’ll be caught,” Murphy said.
Falmouth police did not say if they had any suspects in the case.
They are also asking anyone with information on the incident or those with security video to contact them.
