Retired Bishop of Providence Robert Mulvee dies at age 88

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Former Bishop of Providence Robert E. Mulvee died Friday at St. Antoine Residence in North Smithfield. He was 88 years old.
Mulvee served as Bishop for the Diocese of Providence from June of 1997 until March of 2005.
Bishop Mulvee was a good and gentle shepherd of God’s people,” said current Bishop of Providence Thomas J. Tobin. “He was a faithful follower of Christ who served the Church with dignity and compassion.”
Governor Gina Raimondo released a statement Friday afternoon, calling Bishop Mulvee “an integral member of Rhode Island’s faith community and a faithful leader of our local Catholic community. His loss will be felt by many.”
Funeral arrangements will be announced as soon as they become available.
