Rhode Island awarded $3.8 million grant to expand Veterans Memorial Cemetary in Exeter
EXETER, R.I. (WLNE) — Today the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) National Cemetery Administration announced a $3.8 million grant awarded to the state of Rhode Island for the expansion of the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter.
The grant will fund 2,100 columbarium niches, landscaping, and irrigation.
“This expansion reaffirms [the] VA’s partnership with Rhode Island,” said Acting Under Secretary for Memorial Affairs Ron Walters. “and we are proud to assist this cemetery to allow it to continue to serve Veterans and their eligible family members.”
The cemetery serves more than 56,000 veterans, as well as eligible family members according to the VA.
