Rhode Island celebrates United Way on 211 Day
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Today is February 11 which is also recognized as 211 day.
Rhode Island leaders gathered Tuesday morning to support the impact of United Way, the organization that runs the lifeline.
United Way connected Rhode Islanders to critical services around 213,000 times in 2024.
The top need was housing, followed by utilities assistance, helping with rent and food assistance.
Other services also include elder and child care as well as employment and Medicaid.
211 is a tax free line.
Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee highlighted how 211 assisted residents who were affected by the RIBridges cyber attack last year.
“Whether it’s 211 or Blue Cross or Neighborhood Health that allowed us and I think that’s a part of your mission to make sure that no benefit was delayed,” said McKee.
The lifeline has freed up the state’s municipal resources, saving Rhode Island over $1.3 million in 2024.
211 is a free, confidential service that’s answered by trained professionals available 24/7.
