Rhode Island DCYF discloses near fatality of 17-year-old

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth, and Families disclosed the near fatality of a 17-year-old on Thursday.

Damaris Teixeira, a spokesperson for the department, said the incident occurred on Oct. 16.

Teixeira added that DCYF was involved with the teenager’s family at the time.

The Office of the Child Advocate has been notified.

Teixeira said because of “confidentiality laws, DCYF is prohibited from sharing additional information.”

DCYF reported another near fatality, this time of a 2-year-old, on Wednesday.
