Rhode Island digs out of weekend storm
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Those heading back to work and school on Monday were advised to be cautious of icy conditions on the roads.
As cleanup begins from the weekend snowstorm, some areas may be slippery during the morning commute.
Drivers were advised to completely clear off their vehicles before heading out. When getting behind the wheel, drivers should slow down and avoid any sudden turns.
Some Rhode Island communities were hit with nearly one foot of snow.
Glocester and Burrillville were blanketed with a total of 11 inches — the village of Harrisville saw 10.5.
Other communities, like Providence, saw significantly less.
Mayor Brett Smiley said treating the roads was a major pre-storm priority to get ahead of the aftermath.
Throughout the day Monday, drivers should anticipate seeing salt trucks and plows. Drivers are reminded to allow trucks and plows plenty of room, and to never attempt to pass them.
The aftermath of the storm also postponed the return to the classroom for many.
