PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Rhode Island Energy has released its energy rates for the rest of the year, which shows an average increase of 7 cents per kilowatt hour for residential energy plans.

The price for residential plans in October will be 17.741 per kWh compared to September’s 10.341 per kWh.

This increase is in accordance with a plan the energy company had released a few months ago.

“As anticipated, this upcoming winter’s supply prices are on par with what we experienced last season,” said Dave Bonenberger, president of Rhode Island Energy said at the time.

The City of Providence, meanwhile, said its Community Electricity Program will have a “competitive” rate of 17.641 cents per kWh compared to R.I. Energy’s.

The city said the program “offers residents and businesses cleaner electricity at a competitive cost compared to the standard Rhode Island energy utility.”

“Providence Community Electricity is the easiest way our residents and businesses can help reduce climate pollution,” said Mayor Brett P. Smiley. “Through this program we are helping our community members save money on electric bills and get all of the benefits of cleaner, renewable energy.”
