Rhode Island FC announces jerseys for inaugural season
PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WLNE) — Fans got their first look at the Rhode Island FC’s new kits Monday night, as the team gets ready to bring pro Soccer to the Ocean State next year.
Football has a clear place in the hearts of Rhode Islanders, but soccer is still trying to find its footing, but the team behind the RIFC, Rhode Island’s newest professional sports team, says they’re doing alright ahead of the inaugural season.
“As we sit at the moment, we’re in the top five in the league, in the moment, in terms of season ticket numbers. We’ll announce those when we feel like the time is right. Once we’ve reached a little more of a final resting place. There’s more coming in as we speak, so don’t want to announce it too early,” explained Club President Brett Luy.
With season tickets ranging anywhere between $250, up to almost $1,000, so being in the top five is a good sign for the interest in the club.
“That’s one of the reasons that we feel so bullish about this project here in this community. It’s the amount of support that we’ve gotten from the local community, and we continue to get, and will continue to get. We want to make sure we continue to host great events like this so people can see what the excitement is all about if they’re not as familiar with us just yet,” Luy said.
The club also announced its new kits Monday night to a crowd of hundreds.
“It was so exciting, you know, it’s fun getting to talk to some of the players. And I’m just so excited that Rhode Island finally has a soccer team,” said Elena Martinez, a lucky fan who won a contest to show off the brand-new blue and yellows ahead of the season.
The season for the Rhode Island FC is set to begin in March of 2024, and Luy said they’re planning on announcing full ticket sales with a possible schedule in the coming weeks.
Tickets are still available on the club’s website.
