Rhode Island General Assembly makes appointments for Constitutional Convention Commission
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island General Assembly said that it has made appointments to the bipartisan preparatory commission for November’s ballot question asking voters whether they wish to hold a constitutional convention.
The 12-member commission will hold public hearings about potential issues that might be addressed if the state were to hold a convention.
The first meeting is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, July 24, at the State House.
The commission is made up of four representatives, four senators, and four members of the public and will report issues that the convention could address in a handbook mailed to all voters, due Sept 1.
The commission will be disbanded after the report is issued.
The General Assembly passed legislation in June putting the question if voters wish to hold a convention to discuss and propose potential updates to the state constitution on the ballot.
