Rhode Island Hospital patient arrested after assaulting CNA

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Lifespan Health System said that a patient at Rhode Island Hospital was arrested after assaulting a healthcare worker.

Public Relations Director Kathleen Hart said that the patient assaulted a certified nursing assistant after refusing to be discharged from the hospital.

According to a police report obtained by ABC 6 News, Leo Hamel of Johnston was also uncooperative with police when they arrived and refused to explain the situation.

The CNA told police that Hamel refused to leave after being discharged, and after the assault was allowed to wait in the vestibule until police arrived.

Hamel was charged with assault of healthcare providers or emergency services medical personnel.
