Rhode Island man believed to have faked his death can be extradited back to U.S.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — As reported by The Scottish Sun, the man believed to be Nicholas Alahverdian can now be extradited back to the United States, where he faces charges including rape after allegedly faking his own death.

The Rhode Island man was believed to be located in a Scottish hospital in 2021, receiving treatment for Covid-19.

DNA matched him back to an alleged rape in Utah.

Alahverdian was believed to be operating in Glasgow under the alias of an Irishman by the name of Arthur Knight.

“The jig is up, it’s over,” former Rhode Island State Representative Brian Coogan said.

Coogan said he was an old friend of Alahverdian.

“He wanted my wife and I to adopt him, so he asked to come down to the courthouse,” he said. “But the State of Rhode Island would not allow me to adopt him.”

Alahverdian told Coogan he was dying of Lymphoma before he allegedly passed.

“I go, ‘You’re not dying, you’re a liar,'” Coogan said. “‘You know how to swindle people. You’re one of the best con artists I’ve ever met in my life.’ I hung up on him actually.”

Alahverdian now can be returned to the United States to face charges in Utah and Rhode Island.

“We might have another decade to go of Nick,” Coogan said. “He could have been a judge, a prosecutor, or a U.S. senator.”
