Rhode Island, Massachusetts among states bidding in offshore wind power auction

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The deadline has just passed for developers to bid in an offshore wind power auction including Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Connecticut.

Several offshore wind developers are expected to have submitted proposals.

The tri-state auction was announced after contracts to sell offshore wind power utilities in Massachusetts and Connecticut were scrapped due to rising costs from higher interest rates and supply chain problems.

All three states agreed in October 2023 to jointly pursue offshore wind to help get more projects built.

The selected projects are now expected to be announced in August instead of June of 2024.
