Rhode Island, Massachusetts join lawsuit against Trump over SNAP data grab plan

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Rhode Island has joined a lawsuit with over a dozen other states against the Trump administration over its efforts to obtain data from Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP).

The lawsuit alleges the Department of Agriculture is improperly trying to gather sensitive personal information from families who use food stamps.

In a statement, California’s AG said the demand violates state and federal privacy laws, and the requests further break the trust between the federal government and the people it serves.

Massachusetts is also part of the suit.
