EXETER, R.I. (WLNE) — The rain did not stop Rhode Island leaders from honoring those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
A ceremony was held in Exeter where flags flew at half-staff on Memorial Day as they honored the service members who gave their life for our freedom.
Rhode Island’s top leaders spoke at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery Monday afternoon.
Although the rain led to several cancellations across the area, it certainly did not stop people from paying their respects in Exeter.
The ceremony took place at 1 p.m. Monday and dozens of people visited grave sites of loved ones who were killed in the line of duty.
The entire cemetery was covered in American flags.
Governor Raimondo was joined by Rhode Island congressional delegation where they assisted in the traditional wreath laying ceremony with gold star families.
