Rhode Island officials to honor 80th anniversary of D-Day

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Governor Dan McKee will pay tribute to veterans today in honor of the 80th anniversary of D-Day.
D-Day is considered the beginning of the end of World War II, as 150,000 allied troops stormed the beach of Normandy into Nazi-occupied France.
McKee will join Rhode Island veterans at the Rhode Island Veterans Home in Bristol with Secretary of State Gregg Amore and Attorney General Peter Neronha.
Currently, Senator Jack Reed is in Normandy for the anniversary to join a bi-partisan delegation of senators for remembrance ceremonies and events.
In a statement, Reed said the anniversary “reminds us of the uncommon courage and extraordinary selflessness of our World War II Veterans.”
The delegation will also meet with U.S. diplomatic and military leadership in Europe.
