Rhode Island receives $60.1 million for public transit
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Rhode Island has been allocated $60,105,548 in federal transit funding to improve public transportation across the state in 2024.
The announcement of the funding was made Wednesday by U.S. Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse, along with Congressmen Seth Magaziner and Gabe Amo.
The funds were released by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and represent a $4.2 million increase for the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) bus service network, along with Rhode Island’s train and ferry services.
The funding will be made available to go toward Rhode Island’s efforts to improve and maintain public transportation systems, upgrade stations, tracks and maintenance facilities and other projects.
“This latest round of federal funding will help RIPTA improve service and invest in new vehicles, technologies, infrastructure, and capital purchases,” said Senator Reed.
