Rhode Island renames highway after Bristol Green Beret

BRISTOL, R.I. (AP) _ Rhode Island is renaming a state highway in Bristol after an Army Green Beret who was killed in Afghanistan.

Democratic Gov. Gina Raimondo has planned a ceremonial bill signing Friday to rename a stretch of Route 114 as the 1st Sergeant P. Andrew McKenna Memorial Highway.

The Bristol native was with the U.S. Army Special Forces when he died during an attack in Kabul in August.

The state’s General Assembly passed legislation this week that renames the highway after him.

Raimondo will be joined at the signing in Bristol by the McKenna family, members of Rhode Island’s congressional delegation and the two state lawmakers who introduced the renaming bill _ state Rep. Jan Malik and Sen. Walter Felag, both Warren Democrats.
