Rhode Island ships out care packages to service members deployed over the holidays

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Care packages for deployed Rhode Island service members were shipped out on Sunday.
Rhode Island Lt. Gov. Sabina Matos, Rhode Island Blue Star Moms, and other organizations involved with Operation Holiday Cheer assembled and shipped out about 400 boxes to service members who won’t be home for the holidays.
Congressman Gabe Amo and Secretary of State Gregg Amore assisted in packing the care packages in appreciation for the sacrifices of Rhode Island military members at the Warwick National Guard Armory.
Each care package contains a letter from students in school districts across the state.
They also contain a taste of the Ocean State, including Dunkin’ coffee, coffee milk, and Del’s Lemonade.
Matos sat down with ABC 6 News this week on the annual drive. She said popular items on service members’ wish lists were warm socks, sunflower seeds, and granola bars.
Those still looking to help Rhode Island military families this holiday season can contribute to the Rhode Island Military Family Relief Fund.
