Rhode Island State Police say storm caused cruiser accident, 18 other crashes

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Rhode Island State Police said that it investigated a cruiser crash as well as a number of other emergencies on the road during Tuesday’s storm.

State police said the trooper was injured when his cruiser was struck from behind while he was on the scene of a crash on Route 6 in Johnston.

The trooper was treated for minor injuries at Rhode Island Hospital and was released, while the driver of the car that struck the cruiser was cited for violation of the “Move Over” law and conditions requiring reduced speed.

In addition, state police said that it responded to 18 crashes and 36 calls for disabled motor vehicles or spinouts during the storm.
