Rhode Island State Police to swear-in 1st Black superintendent

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Rhode Island State Police will swear-in its first Black superintendent this week.
Gov. Dan McKee on Wednesday said that there will be a ceremony to swear-in Lt. Col. Darnell Weaver on Friday at the Rhode Island State House.
Weaver will replace Col. James Manni, who will be taking a new role as town manager of South Kingstown.
The outgoing colonel told ABC 6 News Tuesday his successor must be “transparency, honesty, ethics, integrity — these are the hallmarks. People want to know what is taking place.”
“We serve the residents. That is what we’re charged with doing,” added Manni.
The Cranston native has been with the agency for 28 years, and currently the deputy superintendent and chief of field operations. He will be the 15th superintendent of state police.
