Rhode Island State Police warn of phone scam

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)- Rhode Island State Police are warning the public of a phone scam.

State police said that a person is claiming to be the RI Sheriffs Department and telling people that they owe money for missing jury duty.

Sheriffs will never request money over the phone, according to state police.

Anyone who gets a scam call should go to the nearest state police barracks to file a complaint.
