PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) _ The National Governors Association has chosen to hold its 2017 summer meeting in Rhode Island.

The organization announced Monday that its nine-governor executive committee chose the state for its accommodations, venue options and overall appeal.

Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe says he’s excited to bring the nation’s governors to Rhode Island. He’ll serve as the organization’s chair during the meeting. The meeting will be held in July 2017.

It’s one of two official business meetings the organization holds each year.

Rhode Island last hosted the summer meeting in Providence in 2001.
