Rhode Island to receive $30 million of $7.4 billion opioid epidemic settlement
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Rhode Island will receive nearly $30 million in a settlement with Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family.
Rhode Island Attorney General Peter F. Neronha made the announcement following a settlement over the pharmaceutical company’s role in the opioid epidemic.
Purdue was sued for its development and marketing of oxycontin, including misleading information about the addictive nature of opioids.
55 attorneys general, representing all eligible states and territories, were part of this settlement, totaling $7.4 billion.
The settlement will help resolve legal claims by states and local governments.
