PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Indivisible Rhode Island said it delivered 1.6 tons of food to Rhode Island Community Food Bank on Monday after collecting donations at the “Fight Back and Give Back” rally on Feb. 22.
On Saturday afternoon, Indivisible RI, State officials, and residents rallied outside of the State House, vowing to “fight back” against the Trump administration and protect services in Rhode Island.
Organizers with Indivisible RI said they collected donations during the protest for the Rhode Island Community Food Bank, which they said they fear will face state and federal cuts.
This includes a $250,000 budget cut in the latest budget from Governor McKee, according to Indivisible RI.
In total, the rally collected about 3,138 pounds of food for the food bank.
“It’s heartening to see this community rally around our neighbors in need during such an uncertain time,” Rhode Island Community Food Bank CEO Andrew Schiff said. “We’re so grateful to Indivisible and to everyone who showed up this weekend to donate food and funds, and to show their support.”
