Rhode Islanders mark 22 years since Station Nightclub fire
WEST WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — For Rhode Islanders, February 20 is a day they’ll never forget.
It’s been 22 years since the Station Nightclub fire in West Warwick.
Pyrotechnics at the Great White show set the fire back in 2003 and 100 people died with more than 200 hurt.
The site of the club was transformed into a memorial to the victims in 2017.
Today, loved ones and community members left heartfelt notes at the memorial, and wrote the names of victims which were hung on an eastern white pine tree.
The tree is a symbol of peace, strength, protection and longevity.
