PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Broadway Musical “Funny Girl” started its “Hello Gorgeous, Hello North America” Tour at the Providence Performing Arts Center on Sept. 9.

The musical tells the story of the life and career of Fanny Brice, a Broadway star from the early 20th century.

Cast members sat down with ABC 6 to talk about the play and what it means to perform in Providence.

Melissa Manchester, who plays Mrs. Brice, said that the opening night was “thunderous” and the performing arts center was “perfectly suited” for the show.

“We are all up making history with this tour, this is the first tour of this grand musical to be done in 60 years,” she said.

Star Katerina McCrimmon, who plays Fanny Brice, said that the play is “really special” and has “a lot of heart.”

“The show goes through happiness and joy and then utter heartbreak, it really is this full range of emotion,” McCrimmon said. “So if you’re looking for that kind of thing come see our show.”

“Funny Girl” runs until Saturday at the Providence Performing Arts Center.
