RI health dept. seeks binge drinking reports

By Alana Cerrone
Local colleges are now being surveyed on their strategies to address binge drinking.
The Rhode Island Department of Health announced Friday that it has asked local colleges and universities about their efforts to combat students' binge drinking.
Michael Fine, Health Director at the Department of Health, says the consequences of binge drinking “pose too great
of a burden on our society to be ignored,” and that Rhode Island and its colleges must work together to reverse this dangerous trend.
This announcement came on the same day as a rowdy foam party at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Friday night. The party attracted several thousand college students; police reported 10 people landing in the hospital from alcohol-related issues.
The United
Health Foundation America's Health Rankings recently ranked RI 36th out of 50 states for problematic binge drinking.
