RI Delegation, McKee to highlight $27 million in funding for Mount Hope Bridge
BRISTOL, R.I. (WLNE) — Governor Dan McKee and Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse will highlight $27 million in federal funding for major updates to the Mount Hope Bridge today.
According to a release, $17 million of the funding will come from the infrastructure law’s PROTECT grant, also known as the Promoting Resilient Operations for Transformative, Efficient, and Cost-Saving Transformation grant.
Reed and Whitehouse have earmarked $10 million to support the installation of a dehumidification system on the steel wires, cables, and anchors of the Mount Hope Bridge.
According to the release, these improvements to the bridge are expected to help extend the life of the bridge by 50 to 75 years.
