RI elected officials congratulate Biden on projected win

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – Rhode Island elected officials shared their congratulatory words to Joe Biden on Saturday, after he was projected to win the 2020 Presidential Election.
Rhode Island Governor, Gina Raimondo, expressed that she looks forward to working with the new administration.
In a statement, Raimondo said, “I am thrilled to congratulate President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Harris on this historic victory. The American people have spoken in record numbers. Before us is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to build back better — to create an America in which everyone has access to high-quality health care, affordable education, and economic opportunity. There’s no question that Joe Biden is the right leader for this moment. I look forward to working with the Biden-Harris administration as we continue battling the pandemic, rebuilding our economy, combating climate change, fighting for racial equity, and lifting up working families across Rhode Island.”
Congressman David Cicilline said he was confident that “America’s best days are ahead.”
In a statement, Cicilline wrote, “President-elect Joe Biden is the right man for this moment in our history. He will restore honor, decency, and integrity to the Oval Office. Along with Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, he will bring our country together and heal the wounds of the last four years”
He continued, “We have shown the world this week that our country is better than the hatred and division that Donald Trump promoted these last four years. Most importantly, we will soon be able to get to work on the most urgent issues facing America’s families. The American people deserve an effective response to the COVID-19 pandemic, a real plan to rebuild our economy and reward hard work, and a permanent end to the self-dealing and corruption of the Trump administration. With Joe Biden in the White House, we will be able to start delivering those solutions.”
Senator Sheldon Whitehouse tweeted. “The Biden administration will govern for every American as they steer the country through a number of urgent crises: a once-in-a-century pandemic, a lopsided economic disaster, a dramatically changing climate, and a reckoning for racial justice.”
Rhode Island Senator Jack Reed called on President Trump to “respect the will of the American people and ensure a smooth, peaceful transition of power.”
“Facing a pandemic and hardship, the American people turned out in unprecedented numbers and voted for decency and change. They voted for strong, stable, leadership that can help heal and guide the nation” said Reed.
Congressman Jim Langevin said he looks forward to working with the Biden-Harris Administration, “”Our nation continues to wrestle with unprecedented division and daunting economic and public health challenges that we will overcome if we all work together. Strong and competent leadership is especially critical during this challenging time, and President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Harris are committed to facts and science, leading through hope, and promoting mutual respect and understanding. “
