RI Governor Candidates Promise to Solve DMV Waits
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – All four major candidates for governor are promising to do something about a problem that has frustrated Rhode Islanders for years – hours-long waits at the Division of Motor Vehicles.
The Providence Journal reports that waits at the Rhode Island DMV are the longest of any New England state. Democrat Frank Caprio says there should be no wait. He says the DMV should be run like a business that provides superior customer service.
Republican John Robitaille says waits should be no longer than 20 minutes. Moderate Party candidate Kenneth Block suggests 30 minutes.
Independent Lincoln Chafee didn't set a time limit but called the DMV “an embarrassment.” The candidates offered a variety of solutions, including a more efficient use of staff and more online transactions.
