RI offers group gatherings to view the solar eclipse

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The nation’s ‘hot’ topic right now is the viewing of the solar eclipse on April 8, 2024.

The next time New Englander’s will be able to see this occurrence will be 2079.

Here are some local locations that are offering group viewings of this phenomenon:

The University of Rhode Island

The Department of Physics is hosting a viewing party from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. outside of the East Hall.

Complimentary viewing glasses will be given out while supplies last.

Totality is expected at about 3:28 p.m.

Seagrave Memorial Observatory

From 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. the North Scituate observatory located at 47 Peeptoad Road will be open for observing the solar eclipse.

Telescopes will be available and a live feed from the centerline of the path will be projected in the meeting hall.

Roger Williams National Memorial

This viewing event located at 282 North Main Street begins at 1:00 p.m.

It is free to the public and will feature events like speaking with rangers about how our ancestors understood weather events.

Cranston Public Library

The William Hall Library will host a viewing party beginning at 3:00 p.m. and ending at 4:30 p.m.

There will be games and eclipse-related activities for all ages.

Glasses will be given out while supplies last.

Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets.

West Warwick Public Library

The West Warwick Public Library located at 1043 Main Street will host a viewing party of their own from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Lawn games, crafts, music, and food will be available.
