RI Philharmonic Orchestra names new music director

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Board of the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra and Music School has voted to appoint a new Music Director.
Ruth Reinhardt, a German conductor, was appointed to the position as recommended by RI Phil’s Music Director Search Committee.
The selection was announced on June 1 from the state of the VETS Auditorium.
Reinhardt will be the sixth Music Director in RI Phil’s 80-year history.
Principal Conductor Robert Spano will remain in the director role through the 2024-25 season.
Reinhardt has conducted the New York Philharmonic, Cleveland Orchestra, and the symphony orchestras of San Francisco, Los Angeles and Seattle.
“We are thrilled to announce the appointment of Ruth Reinhardt as our next Music Director,” said RI Phil Board Chair Susan Chung.
