RI police made 53 New Year’s DUI arrests, over 3,200 in 2025

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Police Chiefs Association (RIPCA) released the total number of Ocean State DUI arrests for the New Year’s holiday and the year 2025.

According to a RIPCA statement, police arrested 53 drivers for DUI from New Year’s Eve through 6 a.m. January 5.

The organization also said that over 3,200 drivers were arrested for DUI in 2025, according to data compiled from all 38 municipal police departments and Rhode Island State Police.

“These numbers show why impaired driving remains one of the most serious threats to roadway safety. I commend the coordinated efforts of law enforcement agencies across Rhode Island for working together to protect the public and remove impaired drivers from our roads,” said Chief Thomas F. Oates, III, President of the Rhode Island Police Chiefs Association.

Oates also serves as the Chief of Police for the City of Woonsocket.
