RI Rep. David Morales announces bid for Providence Mayor
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Rhode Island State Representative David Morales announced his bid for Mayor of Providence Monday morning.
In a campaign ad posted to social media, Morales, a Democrat, cited a Redfin study naming Providence as the least affordable metro area to rent a home.
“Our neighbors are tired of politicians who say they know best, but don’t listen,” said Morales in the ad.
“That’s why our platform comes from you, the people of Providence.”
He goes on to say he will provide rent stabilization as mayor and will build “truly affordable housing.”
Morales also emphasized a need to improve Providence public transit service.
Providence Mayor Brett Smiley was elected to the office in November of 2022 and the upcoming Providence mayoral election will be held in November of 2026.
Today, Providence is the least affordable city in America for renters and costs are going up for everyone.
Together, we can make Providence a city all our neighbors can afford and where everyone feels welcome.
