People were lined up in Kennedy Plaza Thursday hoping to hit the jackpot, as the state set up tents and tables to return unclaimed cash and property.

There’s about $300 million worth of goods and money the state has in its possession long forgotten by Rhode Island residents and people who have moved out of state.

“This is money that comes from insurance companies, banks, landlords, old safety deposit checks…and the Rhode Island State Treasury will hold onto this money for you until you come to claim it,” said Seth Magaziner, the Rhode Island General Treasurer.
