RI Senate President asks to be withdrawn from committee

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – An email written last month by Committee Chairman Bud Cicilline reported that the President of the Rhode Island Senate is withdrawing her membership on the Newport Democratic City Committee after almost 30 years in the group.
Teresa Paiva Weed asked to be withdrawn as a member because her conflicting schedules.
On the Rhode Island General Assembly website, Weed’s biography says she’s been a member of the committee since 1988.
She is facing a re-election challenge from Republican Sav Rebecchi, and hopes to win another term as Senate President next January.
Weed is a Democrat that represents Jamestown and Newport.
Weed couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.
