RI senator introduces bill to list menopause as protected condition
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A Rhode Island lawmaker has introduced a bill to update fair employment practices to support women going through menopause.
If passed, the bill would add menopause to the list of protected conditions under Rhode Island’s employment law.
The law requires workplaces to accommodate conditions related to childbirth and pregnancy.
It also protects employees from hiring and firing practices because of these conditions.
If passed, Rhode Island would be the first state to add menopause protections into law.
The bill was introduced by Senator Lori Urso in the state senate.
