NORTH SCITUATE, R.I (WLNE) – Rhode Island State Troopers who ran the Boston Marathon to raise money for Cops for Kids with Cancer will present $5,000 checks to local families.
According to a statement released by state police, the checks will be presented to 5 families who have children affected by cancer on September 19, at 11:00 am at the State Police Headquarters in North Scituate.
The Cops for Kids with Cancer Program is designed to help families dealing with the challenges of pediatric cancer.
The seven Troopers who ran the marathon this past April raised over $20,000 for the national charity this year.
According to the department, each of the five families will receive $5,000 to be used to help offset some of the expenses incurred while caring for their children with cancer.
This is the 18th year that Rhode Island State Troopers have participated in the Boston marathon, and it is the seventh year they have done so as a fundraiser of the program.
Rhode Island State Troopers have raised more than $85,000 over the charity.
