Ribbon cutting for new Barrington Middle School

BARRINGTON, RI (WLNE) – Students in Barrington have a new state of the art middle school to learn in for the upcoming school year.
This morning Senator Reed and the State’s Education Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green were on hand for a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new school Monday.
The $68 million facility sits on the fields right to the old school on Middle Highway.
Infante-Green said today’s ceremony should remind everyone about the importance of investing in our schools.
“What we saw here is the community understanding that it has to invest, it has to push forward,” Infante-Green said. “And I think what we see in some places is sometimes blatant neglect.”
The school also has new security measures including an electronic lock down system that notifies police in an active shooter situation.
