The restructuring comes after the FDA determined the state should test all blood for Babesiosis, a tick borne disease with malaria-like symptoms.
Testing for Babesiosis is more expensive, so in order to collect blood in the most cost-effective ways, it will reduce staff in their Donor Services and other departments.
The changes will take effect October 1 and part of those changes will be stopping blood drives with a goal of 15 or fewer collections.
