PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management issued a fire ban in the state of Rhode Island Monday due to the elevated risk of wildfires.

Residents are prohibited from open fires at state parks, campgrounds, and management areas to reduce the threat of a wildfire.

RIDEM said this includes campfires, charcoal fires, and cooking fires.

The ban will stay in effect until further notice.

RIDEM said it will observe weather conditions to determine when the ban will be lifted.

Residents are advised to be careful with wood stoves and cigarettes, and to dispose of the ashes in a metal bucket of water.

If a fire or smoke has been identified, call 911.
