RIDEM postpones prescribed burn in South Kingstown

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management said that it has postponed a prescribed burn set to take place at the Great Swamp Management Area.

The burn was scheduled for Sunday but RIDEM said weather conditions forced a reschedule.

The burn will occur “when weather conditions are favorable.”

RIDEM said that its Forest Fire Program’s prescribed fires prevent more severe wildfires during the season and also trains firefighters on how to fight forest fires.
