RIDEM warns public of rip currents, heavy surf ahead of Hurricane Lee

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management alongside Gov, Dan McKee said the public should exercise caution on the shoreline from Wednesday through the weekend as Hurricane Lee approaches the state.
A high rip current advisory from the National Weather Service is in place for Wednesday and “will likely be extended through the weekend.”
Hurricane Lee is forecasted to pass New England sometime over the weekend, with forecasts calling for an increased risk of wind, coastal flooding, and rain impacts beginning Friday.
Residents in areas like Beavertail State Park, Black Point, and Camp Cronin in Narragansett are advised to take extreme caution during the storm.
McKee said that the state government has mobilized to prepare for the storm.
“We are monitoring the situation closely and we are prepared,” McKee said. “Right now, we’re asking all Rhode Islanders to use extreme caution along the shoreline until these dangerous conditions pass.”
