RIDOH issues health advisory for basil sold at Trader Joe’s

Infinite Herbs-brand organic basil packed in 2.5-oz clamshell packaging have been removed from Trader Joe's stores.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Health is advising consumers that an investigation is ongoing into a multistate salmonella outbreak.

RIDOH said the infections are linked to to the Infinite Herbs-brand organic basil. The products were packed and sold at Trader Joe’s stores in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut.

A total of 12 people were infected with the salmonella strain, and have been reported from 7 states. 7 of the 8 cases with information available reported exposure to the basil purchased at Trader Joe’s.

Trader Joe’s has voluntarily removed all Infinite Herbs-brand organic basil in response to the investigation.
