RIDOH issues overdose spike alert in Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) has issued an overdose spike alert due to increased non-fatal opioid overdose activity in Providence.

This alert encompasses the time period between July 18 and July 24, where Providence exceeded its non-fatal overdose threshold of 21.

Emergency department or emergency medical services experienced 22 reports of non-fatal overdoses in that time.

Providence continued to experience a fatal overdose burden of 1.5 to two times greater than the statewide average.
