RIDOH lifts blue-green algae restrictions on 2 lakes, pond

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Health lifted restrictions on recreational activities at Tiogue Lake in Coventry, at Coomer Lake in Glocester, and at Georgiaville Pond in Smithfield Friday.
Recent surveys and sample analysis confirmed that blue-green algae was still present but at acceptably low levels.
The department said blue-green algae can produce toxins that can harm humans and animals.
Residents are advised to not ingest the water, at fish from the ponds, swim, kayak or boat while any advisory is effect.
