RIDOH recommends closing two swimming areas due to high bacteria levels

COVENTRY, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Health recommended the closure of two swimming areas on Tuesday.

RIDOH announced that Briar Point Beach in Coventry and Hope Community Service Pond in Scituate should be closed due to high bacteria counts.

Officials said the department will continue to monitor and review beach water quality through Labor Day, adding that the status of a beach may change as new data become available.

This is the second year in a row RIDOH has recommended closing the two swimming areas.

Beach information is available through a recorded message on RIDOH’s beaches telephone line (401-222-2751), and a list of closed beaches can also be accessed online.
