FOSTER, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Health said it recommended the swimming area at the Colaluca Family Campground Pond in Foster to reopen.

The swimming area was advised to be closed on June 27 due to high bacteria counts.

On Tuesday, RIDOH said the area could reopen since the bacteria counts “returned to safe levels.”

RIDOH said it monitors bacteria counts in bodies of water through Labor Day.

Up-to-date statuses of swimming areas can be heard in a pre-recorded message by calling 401-222-2751.

A list of closed beaches can be found here.
